Founded in Atlanta in 1982 by Paul and Marcy Erwin, Primrose advanced the
concept of child care, making education a key part of the curriculum in an era
when “all-play and nothing-but-play” was the accepted norm.
The curriculum blends the two leading philosophies of teaching young
children—the child-initiated approach and the teacher-directed approach. It
balances this with age-appropriate academics, focus on character development
and, of course, play, all carefully structured into each school. Primrose serves
children from ages six weeks to five years in its child care program, and up to
age 12 in its after-school program.
The success of this balanced approach has been recognized by leading educational
organizations. Primrose was the first educational child care company and
franchise to receive accreditation from the Commission on International and
Trans-Regional Accreditation, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools
and the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, for meeting standards
on curriculum, safety and teacher training. And it has been ranked by national
business publications.
