Auntie Anne's history

In 1987, Anne Beiler began twisting pretzels as the manager of a concession stand in a Maryland farmer's market to support her husband's vision of establishing a free counselling service for couples and families within their community.

The following February, Anne and her husband purchased their own stand in another farmer's market in Downingtown, Pennsylvania. There, she sold a variety of snacks, including hand-rolled soft pretzels. One day, the wrong ingredients were inadvertently ordered, resulting in a disappointing pretzel. After some experimenting, Anne's husband Jonas suggested adding a few additional ingredients. The resulting pretzel turned out to be the best pretzel Anne and her customers had ever tasted! Soon, the demand for pretzels led to the decision to eliminate all other snacks sold at the stand.

Anne Beiler christened her store Auntie Anne's Hand-Rolled Soft Pretzels and her company Auntie Anne's, Inc. The popularity of her pretzels grew first by word of mouth, and then, through franchised locations. Today, the Company supports over 850 locations worldwide.
