This collection in the past offered ZENITH Manufacture the ideal context in
which to express its expertise as a great watchmaker. Today we can see the
escapement of the El Primero Open chronograph beating at a rhythm of 36,000
vibrations per hour thanks to the harmonic plates of a new movement, the 4021H.
The opening shaped in a figure of “8” evokes infinite time, ultimate balance and
happiness. The angular second hand, open worked dials, the accelerating power
reserve are reminiscent of a mechanical universe. Apart from the elegance of the
chassis, the Class Open provides technological performance.
The stainless steel version is offered in three colours, luminous white, intense
grey and polychrome black, and in two sizes, 40 or 44mm. The smooth dial model
is very now, whilst in guilloche it has a more traditional look, especially in
the rose gold version. Visible thanks to a transparent caseback, the
oscillating weight recaptures the finish of the dial. The power reserve hand, on
the hour axis, is always made in rose gold. The numerals, inspired by fonts
going back to the twenties, are all present in the larger size watch, whilst the
smaller version only has even numbers. The dial plays with transparency, whilst
the case, a large window opened on time, dances in the light: the bezel is
polished whilst the horns are in brushed steel. Technical performance combines
with the ZENITH Style.
Such an exceptional collection is worthy of a unique setting : China in the 21st
Century, the Middle Empire which remained cut off from the world for a long time
and is today opening up. Since then everything has taken on a new meaning: the
opening shaped in a figure of “8” and the fetish numbers in the Buddhist
philosophy have become the symbol of happiness, the levels of the power reserve
mimic the steps of the Great Wall, the openings alternating on the dial a
reminder of the grills in the Forbidden City. Eldorado country of modern times,
the new China, still packed with traditions, is attractive to the business men
of today and tomorrow…
