Seiko 7S26 AutomaticThe 7S26 was introduced in the mid-90s and it is used in all of Seiko's entry level mechanical watches, including the popular Seiko 5 and Automatic Diver's lines. It is widely regarded as a very robust and reliable movement, found in watches touted as "bullet-proof" by their owners. The ability to withstand abuse is a desirable feature for a mechanical watch. The 7S26 uses Seiko's patented Diashock shock protection on the balance pivots, has a soft, plastic spacer ring closely integrated with the movement and a relatively low mass rotor, that is unlikely to bend or break the rotor shaft even with very severe shocks. The plastic spacer ring provides a great deal of additional shock resistance and is a more economical solution than a metal spacer ring, as well. The dial side of the 7S26 movement contains a day and date mechanism with quick-set features that is largely made of plastic. One of the special features of Seiko automatics is the Magic Lever winding system. It has only four parts and this simplicity of design adds to its robustness while maintaining a high level of functionality.
