Calatrava Ref. 6000A classic comes alive with a striking dial: The Ref. 6000 recasts the Calatrava legend, injecting a young, dynamic, contemporary spirit. Its somewhat atypical design was inspired by the Ref. 5000, a limited-edition Calatrava from the 1990s that was an extraordinary success and quickly sought after by collectors. Patek Philippe designed this watch with an analog date, a rare but popular complication in the 1930s. The date at the outer periphery of the dial is clearly indicated by a red crescent moon on the tip of the calendar hand. A small seconds dial is positioned between four and five o’clock. White Arabic numerals and baton hands as well as a minute railway track stand out against a black dial, reminiscent of early aviator chronometers. The 18K white gold case graduates into gently curved lugs. The sapphire crystal glass is antireflectioncoated on the inside to minimize glare. With contrasting charcoal hand-stitching, the matte black alligator strap is secured by the new fold-over clasp that resembles a classic Patek Philippe prong buckle. The heart of the Ref. 6000 is the caliber 240 PS C, an ultra-thin, selfwinding mechanical movement embossed with the coveted Geneva Seal. With its totally new look and distinctive flair, this Calatrava has a commanding presence while remaining elegant and discreet. Further Reading
