| Girard - PerregauxGP Pour Ferrari
In 1993, Girard Perregaux signed a co-branding agreement with Ferrari and created a limited edition split-second chronograph, stamped with the legendary prancing horse symbol. FERRARI 375 MILLE MIGLIA-A LEGENDARY CARIn 1954, PININ FARINA received an unusual order from the celebrated film director Roberto Rossellini for a very special car - a Ferrari naturally - that had to be as stunning and unique as the woman for whom it was intended. Although the Italian cinema has always been famous for its celebrated couples, there was one in particular that captivated the film world of the time: Ingrid Bergman and Roberto Rossellini. When they met at the end of the 1940's, Ingrid Bergman was a star of the American cinema whose glittering career already included two Oscars. Her brilliant acting in two unforgettable masterpieces, Casablanca (1942) and For Whom the Bell Tolls (1943), marked her out as the successor to Greta Garbo. Scarcely had he met Ingrid Bergman than Roberto Rossellini, the illustrious director and figurehead of Italian neo-realism, succumbed to her charm and natural elegance. He married her on 24 May 1950 in Ciudad Juarez (Mexico) and, having become her mentor, directed her in Europe 51 (1952), Voyage in Italy (1953) and Fear (1954). Probably Rossellini's most outstanding films, critics hailed them as "…polished, hard, lucid and uncomplicated, like reality…" Roberto Rossellini was a modernist who enthralled at least two generations of cinema-goers. A passionate man whose life was studded with spectacular love affairs, he adored speed, took a very keen interest in sports car racing and participated in such prestige events as the Mille Miglia. And so it was that PININ FARINA came to create the FERRARI 375 Mille Miglia ordered by Rossellini for his wife Ingrid Bergman. In 2002, forty-eight years later, the GIRARD-PERREGAUX Manufactory has paid tribute to the FERRARI 375 MILLE MIGLIA by creating a watch whose uniqueness will guarantee it a place of honour in the watchmaker's two-hundred-year-old history. To underscore the co-branding agreement, the Manufactory has created an exceptional chronograph whose elegant lines rival those of the legendary Ferrari 375 Mille Miglia which inspired them. Sculpted in pink or white gold, the case is all smooth curves and, with its extended horns, fits snugly around the wrist. Like a page dedicated to FERRARI, it has a silky, "Ingrid Grey" dial with two anthracite grey counters and embossed gold numerals and appliques to match the case. The watch comes on a hand-stitched crocodile leather strap, column-wheel chronograph, mono-pushpiece. Bearing an engraved profile of the legendary car, the case-back indicates that this model has been produced in a limited series. Only 375 will be manufactured, making this superb timepiece a valuable and exclusive possession. Launched in New York, the GIRARD-PERREGAUX pour FERRARI 375 MM is another addition to the refined collection that the Manufactory has dedicated to the Italian car maker.
